Statement

Almost three decades ago when I started as a self taught artist, I painted meticulously detailed narrative scenes with a flattened perspective and riot of decoration and pattern. Sometimes labeled contemporary folk art or faux naïf, I shy away from labels, but non mainstream is a comfortable fit.

As I’ve evolved, my love of flea markets, antiques and interior design influenced my art. In addition to canvases, I turned to washboards, ironing boards, violins, vintage windows, and whatever odd and curious objects and ephemera that inspired me. This passion lead me to open my own antiques shop where I have represented other dealers for 15 years. They are a constant source of amazing objects for my art. My collages and assemblages incorporate lace and crazy quilts, folk art animals, leather books, clock faces, skulls, rhinestone jewelry, old porcelain toasters, hat forms, dress forms, antique purses, old doors, etc. These creations are sometimes fun and whimsical; other times reflections of my inner emotional journey toward wholeness.

I repeatedly turn to the personal and beautiful and small private moments that to me make life holy.
